The
Fourth European Industrial and Technical Heritage
Weekend took place at the brand new Cité
Internationale de la Dentelle et de la Mode in
Calais (http://www.cite-dentelle.fr/
).
The museum on the history and technology of
mechanical lace production, and the use of lace in
fashion, was opened just before the summer
season. It is housed in a marvellously
restored and for museum purposes adapted old lace
factory.
Although the city was much damaged during the war,
Calais
kept a lot of interesting features witnessing its
industrial and transport history, including its
harbour.
